Our one-day excursion to the beautiful Croatian Zagorje starts in Klanjec, a small town with a rich history, situated on a hill. We will see what is most important – the restored sarcophagus of the noble Erdody family and the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and then we are headed towards the “Old Village” Museum in Kumrovec. It is the most famous open – space ethnographic museum in Croatia, where you will be acquainted with the beauty of the architecture (traditional wooden, brick and stone houses, farm facilities) and typical customs of the Zagorje village from the late 19th and the early 20th century, such as traditional wedding, workshops like weaver’s, blacksmith’s, wainwright’s, children’s wooden toy maker’s, potter’s, gingerbread and mead maker’s. You will also see the birth house of Josip Broz Tito, a revolutionary and president of the former Yugoslavia. The road continues towards the castle Veliki Tabor, a noble town, one of the most important cultural and historical monuments of continental Croatia. It is also possible to organize traditional lunch in Zagorje, if desired. This one-day trip ends with a visit to the Krapina Neanderthal Museum.
